Since joining Lagan Aviation & Infrastructure, I’ve experienced steady growth — not just in my engineering skills, but in confidence, responsibility, and adaptability. I started out as a placement engineer, returned as a graduate, and now work as a site engineer. Each stage has brought new challenges, and I’ve always felt supported by experienced colleagues who are generous with their time and knowledge.

Aviation is a demanding sector. Deadlines are tight, the pace is fast, and the pressure is real. But that’s part of what makes it rewarding. There’s a real sense of urgency and purpose in what we do, and I’ve come to enjoy the challenge of finding quick, practical solutions without compromising on quality.

What makes it all work is the team. Lagan fosters a culture where people take pride in their craft and look out for one another. I’ve learned a lot from those around me — not just technical skills, but how to stay calm under pressure and make decisions that count.

It’s not always easy, but it’s never dull. And for me, that’s exactly the kind of environment where I want to be.

FAQS

  • Normally you would start in early September, but we may be a little flexible in some instances. The graduate scheme will last up to 2 years.

  • To help your career flourish at Lagan, your line manager will provide day-to-day support. You will also receive a structure program that will help you achieve the route to chartership for the relevant professional body, e.g. ICE and RICS.

  • For our civil engineering graduate opportunities, you will need a civil engineering undergraduate/postgraduate degree. In some cases, we may consider closely related degrees. For the Quantity Surveying role, a QS degree or a finance related degree would be most beneficial.

  • We are a project-based business so your base will change depending upon which      project you are working on. This could be in the UK or overseas on a commercial airfield or a Ministry of Defence site.

  • You’ll be working with highly experienced industry professionals who will support and guide you throughout your role. The sizes of the teams vary depending on the project from 50 people to 200 people.

  • Our graduate opportunities are advertised between October and February. If you apply and are shortlisted at that stage, we will give you a call to discuss your application. Shortlisted candidates from this stage are invited to complete a psychometric assessment after which you may be invited to attend final interview.

  • If we have directly spoken to you at any stage of your application, we would be pleased to offer you feedback.

  • The salary for the role is commensurate with the industry average. Salaries are reviewed annually to ensure they remain competitive. Our benefits package is comprehensive and includes a discretionary bonus, living away allowance (tax free), 25 days holiday that increase by 1 day each year, healthcare plan, high-street discounts and subsidised gym membership just to name a few.

  • As a new civil engineering graduate your day typically involves a mix of office and site work you might start by reviewing project plans, analysing data or preparing reports. Later you could visit the project site to support inspections, monitor progress and liaise with contractors or senior engineers – all with the support of your line manager. It's a balance of learning problem solving and gaining hands on experience of our business.

  • Our roles are all based in security critical environments; therefore, we are subject to very strict background and security checks which may vary depending on the project. Basic DBS checks and criminal record checks along with Right to Work and identity checks are essential. Due to our work at RAF sites, there are more in-depth security requirements. Of course you will be made aware of these.

  • Thank you for your interest in joining us. Unfortunately, we’re not able to offer visa sponsorship for overseas candidates at this time. Applicants must have the existing right to work in the UK to be considered.
