Role Overview
Are you a Design Manager looking to build your experience in an exciting and diverse business? If the answer is yes, then we want to hear from you! We’re Lagan Aviation & Infrastructure, a leader in the construction and maintenance of airport and military infrastructure worldwide. As a Design Manager you’ll be leading and coordinating the design process on design and build construction projects and tenders, ensuring designs meet client requirements, regulatory standards, and project budgets. You’ll also work closely with architects, engineers, and contractors, the role involves managing design development, mitigating risks, and driving value engineering opportunities.
With over 30 years of experience in over twenty countries we are the specialists in the delivery of airside and landside aviation projects for the Military and Civil Aviation Sectors. We operate across all major airports in the UK and Ireland, including logistically challenging regional airports such as those in the Highlands & Islands of Scotland and the Channel Islands. Globally, we have successfully delivered projects in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean.
We’re also a key delivery partner to the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), providing support to the UK Armed Forces at Ministry of Defence (MOD) bases throughout the UK and overseas.
What you’ll do
As an experienced Design Manager, we’ll support you to develop a rewarding career with us. The focus of your role will be acting as the key liaison between architects, engineers, consultants, clients, project stakeholders and construction teams. You’ll ensure that design information is delivered on time, in accordance with our client and stakeholder requirements and in a manner that can be executed efficiently and accurately on site. This includes reviewing technical drawings, resolving design issues, coordinating stakeholder reviews, managing change, mitigating risks, and ensuring that designs align with project budgets and schedules.
You’ll also be expected to have a deep understanding of construction methodologies, design coordination, and stakeholder management, ensuring smooth collaboration between design and construction teams and where appropriate providing support and advice as necessary.
In this role you’ll play a critical part in driving value engineering and innovation while maintaining high-quality design standards. By integrating sustainable and buildable design solutions, the role contributes to successful project delivery, reducing delays and avoiding costly design changes during construction. The role reports to the Framework/Project Director.
The role can be based at anyone of our site or office locations across the England.
What you’ll bring
A degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
Membership of RIBA, CIOB or ICE
Previous experience of working on a civils/infrastructure/construction project as a design manager
Practical understanding of architectural, structural, and MEP design principles
Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building regulations (e.g. UK Building Regulations, CDM 2015)
Experience in managing design coordination on construction projects across various sectors
Proficiency in design management software and tools (e.g. BIM, AutoCAD)
Experience of working on aviation infrastructure and/or pavements or major construction projects, nationally and internationally (desirable)as required
Right to Work and live in the UK. Willingness to travel and work away from home
